Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG), a U.S. top 20 professional services firm, has launched the DHG Futures Program – a learning and development program to recruit, develop and retain undergraduate students from underrepresented groups and provide them with valuable career skills and opportunities. The Future’s Program takes place each summer and the program progressively develops over a three-to-four-year period. The first Futures participants will begin this Summer.

“This year, we celebrate the centennial anniversary of the first Black CPA, John Cromwell Jr. Although much progress has been made, underrepresented groups still only make up a fraction of all accountants. We understand recruiting and talent acquisition tactics need to be reimagined. The Futures Program is a way to broaden the firm’s talent pool and recruit best-in-class diverse talent, not to mention enhance opportunities and enrich the firm’s culture to create a better employee and client experience,” said Tricia Wilson, Managing Partner of Talent and Leadership.

Futures provides learning and development opportunities for students and DHG team members. The program empowers students to develop fundamental career and professional skills through exposure to vast career opportunities in public accounting, real-world experience to strengthen business acumen and opportunities for networking and leadership growth. As a firm, DHG is committed to creating a truly inclusive environment where all team members can be their best selves. Expanding diversity of thought with individuals from many different backgrounds and perspectives is an integral step for Inclusion & Diversity to better the firm’s culture and deliver exceptional client service.

“When I look back to when I was an accounting student, I wish I had this experience not only to better understand the opportunities in public accounting, but also to build relationships that would help propel my career. I didn’t have anyone to give me advice and teach me the ropes so I understand first-hand the immense impact Futures will have on the career trajectory of students,” explained Kyerra Moody, Diversity Campus Recruiting Manager.

The paid program is designed for participants to start their freshman or sophomore year to attend a Diversity Leadership Summit followed by additional internships throughout their participation in the program to offer career development opportunities, mentorship and networking and better prepare future accountants for skills that will enhance their career performance.

  • Futures Introduction: One week Diversity Leadership Summit.
  • Futures Intermediate: One week Diversity Leadership Summit and eight week administrative internship.
  • Futures Advanced: One week Diversity Leadership Summit and eight week internship that is split between administrative duties and shadowing in areas of interest.
  • Futures Graduation: Traditional Internship Experience, which includes one week of Launch and eight week internship in preferred service line and office of their choosing.

The Futures application process is now open through March 8. To apply for the 2021 Futures Program, click here.
